North Tyneside-based, Carney Consultancy, has appointed Zachary Marshall, 26, as administrative assistant.
His arrival is in-line with the company’s commitment to develop and retain talented young people, including the launch of a graduate recruitment scheme. Carney Consultancy has experienced a positive first half of the year, with increased growth and a strong forward order book. In the last two years, the company, led by managing director, Angela Carney and directors, Martin Crammond and David Wadds, has seen turnover surge by 64 per cent, with a 22 per cent increase in retained clients. Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy specialises in construction and engineering, providing health and safety consultancy and training. Team members come from a main contracting and subcontracting background and have worked, as consultants, with some of the North East’s main companies. Zach, said: “I have five years’ experience working in a customer service background and I wanted a new challenge. Carney Consultancy really appealed to me because of its career progression routes. I was impressed by the videos on its website highlighting the team and it seemed to be a friendly environment to work in – all of which I have found to be true! “As well as the administrative side of the role, where I shadow customer liaison coordinator, Louise Dack, I am also beginning to learn SHEQ management systems, SSIPS and Constructionline applications. Our health and safety assistant, Kerry Benson, is advising me. I am eager to learn as there are many opportunities to develop my career via a range of training routes offered by the company.” Managing director, Angela Carney, said: “Zach is proving to be a great addition to our team. He joins with enthusiasm and a hunger to learn more. Our consultants have all been trained from scratch and that’s always been our approach. We develop people to reach their potential, often they can’t see how good they are, but we can. “It is crucial, from the outset, to have a detailed training programme for trainees and apprentices, so they understand what needs to be achieved to continually move their careers forward.” |

North Shields-based, Carney Consultancy, has hailed a positive start to the year, with increased
growth and a strong forward order book. In the last two years, the company, led by managing director, Angela Carney and directors, Martin Crammond and David Wadds, has seen turnover surge by 64% following a 22% increase in retained clients. Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy specialises in construction and engineering, providing health and safety consultancy and training. Team members come from a main contracting and subcontracting background and have worked, as consultants, with some of the North East’s main companies. The firm works on an on-going basis with a variety of small to medium sized builders, specialist sub-contractors and management companies. Last year, the company identified a gap in the market to provide specialist training to three of its staff in areas such as sustainability and environmental awareness and has aided in completing carbon footprint reports for companies planning for the future. It has also seen a big rise in demand for fire door inspections, resulting in the launch of a new division. As a result, specialist training has been delivered to a further three of its team, headed by its health and safety consultant and lead fire risk assessor, Steve Harkness. Sister business, Carney CDM, provides both the principal designer and CDM advisor role services in accordance with the construction, design and management (CDM) Regulations 2015 across England, Scotland and Wales and comprises of director Caroline Morton as well as Angela, David, Martin. Established in 2021, the company has also outlined growth plans and is in the process of advertising for a new consultant to provide the principal designer/ CDM advisor role. As it enters its third year of trading, Carney CDM will also be announcing the launch of a new office. Managing director, Angela Carney, said: “Carney Consultancy has steadily grown in the last few years as a result of investing heavily in our people to develop their skills and careers which, clearly, is of benefit to our loyal clients. “Team members come from varying backgrounds and that gives us depth and different perspectives. We are also proactive when it comes to offering health and safety advice to very receptive clients who put quality workmanship and the welfare of their employees as priorities. “Our growth has been organic through word of mouth and by identifying areas of opportunity. We have also expanded our footprint into the North West, working with a number of key clients, such as Cubby Construction and TClarke. “Our sister company, Carney CDM, is growing very well and, over the last three years, has worked on construction projects that ranged from less than £1 million to £30 million in size. “Led by director, Caroline Morton, the company has worked on a number of prestigious projects such as the refurbishment of The Axis Building, on the Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, on behalf of UK Land Estates.” |

The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is currently in the process of talking to leadership figures from across the nation in an attempt to understand this universal trait and what it means in Britain and Northern Ireland today. Angela was invited onto an episode of the podcast, which also included an interview with Sir Andrew Strauss. Host Scott Challinor asked both guests a series of questions about leadership and the role it has played in their careers to date. Scott Challinor commented, ‘Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.’ Lord Blunkett, chairman of The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said, ‘I think the most informative element of each episode is the first part, where Scott Challinor is able to sit down with someone who really gets how their industry works and knows how to make their organisation tick. Someone who’s there day in day out working hard and inspiring others. That’s what leadership is all about.’ |
